16 th “World Edible Oils” International Contest AVPA – Paris 2018


The Contest


First of all OUR BEST WISHES FOR THE NEW YEAR 2018 . Now comes the time for the 16th  “World Edible Oils” International Contest AVPA – Paris 2018 ! As usual it is reserved for vegetable oil producers and bottlers, members of the association. Each year a jury of professionals operates a selection among registered oils in order to award them the “Diplôme Produit Gourmet AVPA” and, for the best of them, gives one of the three trophies:  “Gourmet d’Or”, “Gourmet d’Argent” or “Gourmet de Bronze”.

Attention: please keep in mind there are some specific AVPA oils categories mainly black fruity oils in the olive oils contest, and  flavoured, macerated and blended oils in the vegetable, grains and nuts oils contest. So all participating vegetable oils have a chance to obtain a medal in their category in this international contest.

AVPA jury

The originality of AVPA contest, resides in the quality of its jury. This jury of tasting is composed of professionals of edible oils business, great chefs of which certain have Michelin stars and enlightened amateurs.  They rely upon the AVPA contest rules available on the AVPA web site.

Jury members are tasting products with rigour and serious, in order to determine which oils appear the most interesting: complexity, subtlety, aromatic harmony are criteria of quality.  To ensure the coherence of the cultural referents and linguistics the jury is of French gastronomical culture.

Before the AVPA contest, a pre-tasting allows to put aside the products whose characteristics do not satisfy the contest requests.  At the end of this stage the selected oils are accepted for final tasting and are awarded a “Produit Gourmet” diploma. All tastings are carried out blind, in a sensory analysis laboratory. Since 2010 the contest proceeds with the technical support of the CTO Centre Technique de l’Olivier in Aix en Provence.  The awarded products can use the medals, in the scope defined by the AVPA licence available on the page hereunder: ” A medal: what do with it ?”

MARCH 2018

Registration form and payment must arrive in AVPA before wednesday 28 th of February 2018.

Samples must arrive in AVPA office before wednesday 28 th of February 2018.

First selection of olive oils from Monday 12th to Friday 16th of March 2018 in the CTO in Aix en Provence .

The olive oils final jury will meet on Monday 26th of March 2018.

Ordering and selection of vegetable, grains and nuts, and flavored oils will take place on thursday 15th and friday 16th of March 2018

The vegetable, grains and nuts, and flavored oils jury will meet on Monday 19th of March 2018 in AVPA.

 APRIL 2018

The awards ceremony will take place on Thursday 26 th of April 2018 at 11 am in the lounges of 4th district Paris Town Hall.

ALL RESULTS WILL BE ON LINE on Thursday 26 th of April 2018 at 6 pm

Public exhibition of all awarded oils open to general public on friday 28th and saturday 29 th of April 2018 from 11 am until 7 pm in AVPA exhibition room.
